In cooperation with the Backnang Open University, the twinning association invited attendees to a lecture series. Two lectures have already taken place. The lecture on gin and culture will be offered again at a later date.

In April, participants embarked on a cultural and historical journey through Scotland. The focus was on Scottish history, traditions, and the significance of whisky as a cultural asset. The changed perception of Scottish history due to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s retreat at Balmoral also played a role. The evening was complemented by a whisky tasting, where various types were sampled, and their unique characteristics were explained.

In June, another lecture explored the mystical landscape of Essex in literature. The focus was on the portrayal of marshlands in historical novels, particularly incorporating themes such as witch trials and mythical creatures. A central element was the myth of the Essex Serpent, which plays a special role in literature. The lecture provided a deep insight into the connection between landscape, history, and literary imagination.
